Rajshahi university becomes Bangladesh’s first fully cashless campus

Mastercard and Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC have launched Bangladesh's first fully cashless university campus at Rajshahi University under Bangladesh Bank's Cashless Bangladesh initiative.
Students, faculty, and visitors now make quick, secure, and convenient digital transactions across campus facilities. This shift reduces reliance on cash and accelerates the adoption of smart financial services. Rajshahi University now provides digital payment tools such as point-of-sale machines and Bangla QR, enabling everyone to make fully digital transactions across all campus facilities. A dedicated student debit card also empowers students with a secure and convenient way to manage their finances. The inauguration ceremony featured Professor Dr. Mohammad Main Uddin, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) of Rajshahi University, as the chief guest, with officials from the Bangladesh Bank, Islami Bank, and Mastercard also in attendance.
Commenting on the collaboration, Mohammad Jamal Uddin Mazumder, additional managing director of Islami Bank, said: "We are proud to partner with Mastercard in transforming Rajshahi University into the country's first fully cashless campus. This milestone reflects our ongoing commitment to drive digital transformation, foster financial inclusion, and empower students and faculty with seamless, secure payment solutions that enhance their daily lives."
Building on this perspective, Syed Mohammad Kamal, country manager for Bangladesh at Mastercard, said: "By introducing modern digital payment solutions and a dedicated student debit card, we are not only supporting the vision of a truly cashless Bangladesh but also demonstrating how innovation can empower young communities and accelerate the nation's journey towards a robust digital economy."
This initiative empowers both students and faculty, positioning Rajshahi University as a leader in digital transformation within the education sector.
