Professor Ruma joins DUET as third pro-vice-chancellor
Professor Dr Engineer Ruma of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering has joined Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology (DUET), Gazipur, as its third pro-vice-chancellor.
She met Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Engineer Mohammad Iqbal on Wednesday morning, according to a press release.
Deans, departmental heads, directors, office heads, teachers, officials and employees of the university were present at the meeting she attended after assuming office.

Congratulating the newly appointed pro-vice-chancellor, Professor Iqbal said collective leadership and cooperation were essential to accelerate DUET's development and ensure its sustainability.
"I believe the newly appointed pro-vice-chancellor will draw on her extensive academic and administrative experience to contribute to the university's education, research, administration and institutional activities," he said.
He expressed hope that Professor Ruma would help strengthen DUET and develop it into a student-friendly, research-oriented university of international standard.
Professor Ruma later exchanged greetings with the university's teachers, officials and employees who attended the meeting.
"I will perform my duties with utmost sincerity and dedication to accelerate DUET's progress through education, research and innovation," she said.
She said the university's goal was to bring all stakeholders together under the vice-chancellor's leadership to build a modern, knowledge-based institution of international standard and strengthen DUET's education and research.
Professor Ruma also sought the cooperation of the university's teachers, officials and employees in advancing the institution.
The Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education issued a notification regarding her appointment on 27 July.
The notification, signed by Joint Secretary Kazi Nurul Islam by order of the President, appointed her to the post for a four-year term.
Professor Ruma is serving as Dean of DUET's Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. She previously served as Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and as a hall provost, among other administrative positions.
She completed her bachelor's degree in electrical and electronic engineering at DUET and her master's degree at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology.
She later earned a PhD in pulsed power and plasma from Kumamoto University in Japan.
Her research interests include high-voltage discharge plasma, renewable energy, power electronics and power systems. She has published more than 39 papers in national and international journals and conference proceedings and remains involved in several research projects.
