Panchabati-Muktarpur double-decker road to open by 2026: Bridges secretary
Secretary to the Bridges Division and Executive Director of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority Mohammad Abdur Rouf inspected the Panchabati-Muktarpur road widening and double-decker road project today.
Abdur Rouf directed officials and contractors to maintain quality benchmarks, fast-track pending work through smooth inter-agency coordination, and open the road to vehicular movement by 2026, according to a press release.
Rouf expressed satisfaction with the installation of solar-powered street lighting along the corridor and noted that the initiative aligns with the government's energy-saving roadmap.
"We are determined to ensure environmentally friendly and sustainable development according to the current government's energy-saving plan. I am delighted to see the successful implementation of the government's directives to generate electricity through solar systems in this project. Once operational, the double-decker road will bring a revolutionary change to the region's transport network," he said.
Rouf added that the country is upgrading its transport infrastructure to international standards through targeted investments in key connectivity corridors.
Under the initiative's green energy component, 586 modern street lights have been installed on both sides of the 9.06-kilometre flyover, powered entirely by dedicated solar energy systems.
Operating these lights for 10 hours daily will generate 1,172 units of electricity, saving Tk4.03 lakh monthly and Tk48.35 lakh annually. As a result, the solar setup will spare 4.22 lakh units of electricity from the national grid each year.
Additional Secretary to the Government and Director (Administration) of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority Altaf Hossain Sheikh, Project Director Ohiduzzaman, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) of Narayanganj Rinat Fouzia, Additional Director Anjuman Ara, and Deputy Director Md Masud Rana Sikder were also present during the inspection, along with project engineers and contractor representatives.
