NU VC attacked again over auto pass demand
National University Vice-Chancellor Professor ASM Amanullah has once again faced aggression from students demanding 'auto pass'.
According to a university press statement, third-year degree students staging demonstrations in favour of auto pass attacked the vice-chancellor's vehicle and harassed him on Monday afternoon as he returned to Dhaka from the National University campus in Gazipur.
The release noted this was not the first such incident. On 21 May 2025, the vice-chancellor was injured in an attack allegedly carried out by 2022 bachelor's (pass) examinees, who were also demonstrating for auto pass.
Responding to journalists after the earlier incident, Professor Amanullah stated that the university administration would not support unjustified demands or appeals from students.
"National University does not endorse any form of auto pass," he said.
Reiterating his position, Professor Amanullah said the university is discouraging both auto pass and grace marks to uphold academic standards.
He added that the university administration is adopting a stricter stance on the issue.
"If National University grants auto pass even once, the country's entire education system will be undermined," he said.
