LafargeHolcim Bangladesh launches Holcim Structural Excellence Awards 2026
LafargeHolcim Bangladesh PLC (LHB), a sustainable building materials manufacturer, officially launched its nationwide "Holcim Structural Excellence Awards 2026" on 2 September 2026.
Designed to honour exceptional engineering achievements and pioneering contributions to Bangladesh's construction sector, the awards programme will recognise structural innovation, sustainable construction and visionary engineering professionals.
LHB Chief Executive Officer Iqbal Chowdhury inaugurated the launch event at a city hotel in the presence of civil engineers, academic leaders and industry experts. According to a press release, the ceremony outlined the competition's full roadmap, culminating in a grand gala to celebrate the awardees in January 2027.
Inaugurating the event, Iqbal Chowdhury said, "Engineers are the true architects of our nation's rapid modernisation and resilient infrastructure. As Bangladesh advances towards smart, climate-resilient and sustainable urbanisation, recognising the brilliance and dedication of our engineering community is vital. Through this award programme, LHB aims to foster innovation, promote green construction practices and empower both seasoned professionals and emerging engineering minds to set new benchmarks in structural and environmental excellence. Furthermore, LHB is committed to leveraging its global expertise to connect local engineering talent with world-class, modern technologies seamlessly."
The awards programme features four categories. The "High Performing Concrete Structure", "Advanced Concrete Technology & Circularity" and "Legendary Structural Engineer Award" categories will each recognise one winner.
The "Next Generation/Visionary Design" category will honour 10 emerging talents, recognising innovation, technical mastery and future-ready engineering leadership. One recipient among the category winners will also receive the Grand Winner title.
To ensure technical rigour and standardised evaluation, the competition will follow five phases.
The first phase, "Launch & Call for Submissions", marks the programme's official launch and opens the nationwide online registration portal for entries.
During the second phase, "Submission Phase", participating engineers will submit comprehensive technical dossiers, structural drawings, sustainability impact reports and project verification credentials.
The third phase, "Shortlisting", will involve initial screening and preliminary evaluation to verify compliance and technical eligibility.
The fourth phase, "Jury Screening & Final Selection", will include comprehensive evaluation, candidate presentations, and independent scoring by an external jury panel.
In the final phase, "Winner Selection & Grand Gala Event", the final scores will determine the awardees. Winners will receive trophies and recognition at the grand gala in Dhaka.
Interested professionals can visit the LafargeHolcim and Structural Excellence Award websites to submit their projects.
An independent, multidisciplinary panel of experts, civil engineering professionals, and academics will evaluate submissions.
The panel includes Professor of the Department of Civil Engineering at Buet Dr Raquib Ahsan; Executive Director of Ananta Group Major General (retd) Nizam Ahmed; Managing Director and Lead Design Engineer of Inter Space Limited Engineer Abdullah Al Hossain Chowdhury (Rizvi); Managing Director of SB Consultant Ltd Engineer AKM Saiful Bari (PEng, Buet); and Associate Professor of the Department of Civil Engineering at Mist Lt Col Dr Khondaker Sakil Ahmed, PEng, CEng.
Commercial and Logistics Director of LHB Mohammad Mahfuzul Hoque delivered a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the engineering community.
