NSU launches initiative to promote mental well-being on campus
North South University (NSU) has launched a comprehensive initiative to promote mental health and overall well-being among its students and faculty members.
The initiative was jointly undertaken by the university's Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and Counseling and Well-being Center (CWC), amid growing concern over mental health challenges in educational institutions.
Recent surveys have highlighted rising levels of burnout among teachers and increasing stress, depression, loneliness and concentration difficulties among students. In response, NSU authorities said they have taken steps to strengthen mental and holistic well-being across the campus.
The initiative was inaugurated by Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor of North South University. The programme was also attended by the university treasurer, deans of various faculties, the proctor, registrar, director of IQAC and heads of departments.
In his address, Professor Chowdhury cited academic pressure, intense competition, employment uncertainty and wider socio-economic instability as key contributors to rising stress and anxiety among young people, reaffirming the university's commitment to prioritising mental health.
As part of the initiative, a team of psychologists has developed a mental health awareness poster outlining eight research-based self-help strategies, including mindful breaks, stress management, calm breathing and self-care. The poster will be displayed across the campus.
