Museobus programme promotes nuclear science awareness among Ishwardi students
A public awareness programme titled 'Nuclear Science Education Programme and Mobile Science Museum Exhibition' was held on 13 and 14 August 2026 at educational institutions in Ishwardi upazila as part of public awareness activities under the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Construction Project.
Organised with the cooperation of the National Museum of Science and Technology, the programme brought together students from Ishwardi Sugarcane Research High School, Alhaj Textile Mills High School, Maniknagar Girls' High School and Jamiatul Quranul Karim Madrasa, according to a press release. The students explored interactive scientific exhibits presented through Museobus, the mobile science museum of the National Museum of Science and Technology, according to a press release.
Representatives of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission and the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Construction Project conducted sessions on nuclear energy, radiation, the peaceful uses of nuclear technology and the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant. The programme also featured a question-and-answer session and a quiz competition on nuclear science.
Dr Anand Kumar Das, Director of the Scientific Information Division of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, said the programme aimed to encourage students' interest in science and provide accurate information about the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant. He said interactive activities, including the mobile science exhibition, quiz competition and question-and-answer session, created opportunities for students to learn about science in an accessible and engaging manner.
Saikat Ahmed, Focal Point (Media) and Senior Scientific Information Officer of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Construction Project, said providing students with accurate and evidence-based information at an early stage was important. He said initiatives such as Museobus could help develop a scientific mindset while creating opportunities for students to learn about nuclear science and technology.
He added that participatory, science-based activities could encourage students' curiosity and spirit of inquiry while helping dispel misconceptions about nuclear science and technology.
Chief Scientific Officer of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission Achma Begum, Senior Librarian Maruf Hossain and Project Public Relations Officer Kazi Mohammad Iqbal Hasani attended the programme. Saikat Sarker, Chief Display Officer of the National Museum of Science and Technology, along with other officials from the organisation, also participated.
The organisers said the mobile science education programme is expected to foster students' interest in science and technology, provide evidence-based knowledge about nuclear science and help develop a positive and realistic understanding among Bangladesh's future generation about the country's peaceful nuclear programme.
