Max Foundation and BRAC JPGSPH sign MoU to strengthen urban health research

Max Foundation Bangladesh and the BRAC James P Grant School of Public Health (JPGSPH), BRAC University, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on research, evaluation, and capacity-building initiatives under the Healthy Village in Urban (HVU) programme. This pioneering initiative aims to improve health outcomes for underserved urban communities through evidence-based, scalable solutions.
The MoU was signed in Dhaka by Dr ATM Tariqul Islam, Country Director of Max Foundation Bangladesh, and Laura Reichenbach, Dean of JPGSPH and Director of the Centre of Excellence for Science of Implementation and Scale-Up (CoE-SISU). This strategic partnership brings together the implementation expertise of Max Foundation with the academic and technical capabilities of JPGSPH, to jointly address complex public health challenges in urban settings.
As part of the collaboration, Max Foundation will serve as the host organisation for knowledge and evidence generation, while JPGSPH will assume the role of technical partner. Key areas of focus will include the research and evaluation of the HVU programme, provision of internship opportunities for JPGSPH students, knowledge exchange through joint seminars and training, and collaborative grant applications. The partnership will also support the publication of joint research outputs, including policy briefs and peer-reviewed articles.
Max Foundation will facilitate access to project sites, assign focal points for research and internships, and ensure adherence to ethical research protocols. JPGSPH will lead on research design, methodology development, field implementation, and dissemination of findings.
The agreement further outlines joint efforts to pursue funding opportunities and develop policy-relevant knowledge products that can inform public health strategies and scale effective interventions across similar contexts.
The MoU will remain effective from July 2025 to June 2026, with provisions for annual renewal based on mutual consent. All research data and outputs will be co-owned by both parties, with a shared commitment to ethical standards, transparency, and mutual learning.
This partnership reflects a forward-looking approach to integrating academic insight with on-the-ground implementation, creating a strong foundation for impactful and sustainable urban health solutions.
