Liakat Ali Chowdhury elected Al-Arafah Islami Bank vice-chairman
Alhajj Liakat Ali Chowdhury has been elected vice-chairman of the Board of Directors of Al-Arafah Islami Bank PLC.
He was elected unanimously at the board's 464th emergency meeting, held on 16 July 2026, according to a press release.
Chowdhury is involved in businesses spanning shipbreaking and recycling, real estate, and oxygen production.

He is the managing partner of Asadi Steel Enterprise and Jamuna Ship Breakers, managing director of Bangladesh Ship Breaking Limited and L&M Builders (Pvt) Limited, and proprietor of Regal Oxygen.
He also serves as a director of the Chattogram Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, a founding member of Southern University, and a member of the advisory council of the Bangladesh Ship Breakers and Recyclers Association.
Chowdhury is also associated with several business, social and professional organisations.
