IUBAT celebrates International Nurses Day
The College of Nursing at IUBAT – International University of Business Agriculture and Technology – marked International Nurses Day 2026 with a series of events on Tuesday (12 May).
The celebration underscored the vital role of nurses in healthcare delivery and societal wellbeing.
The programme featured four key events—a rally, a seminar, a cultural gala, and a health check-up—at the IUBAT Open Auditorium.
The event was organised under the global theme, "Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives." It aimed to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of nurses to healthcare and the broader community.
To start, proceedings commenced with the arrival of guests and a screening of the "IUBAT Six Seasons" presentation.
Subsequently, a minute's silence was observed in memory of IUBAT founder vice-chancellor Professor Dr M Alimullah Miyan and former pro-vice-chancellor Professor Mahmuda Khanam.
The formal session then opened with a welcome address from College of Nursing chair and associate professor Dr Sandra Rumi Madhu.
This was followed by a special video message from Professor Alex Berland.
Speakers included IUBAT vice-chancellor Professor Dr Abdur Rab; Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council registrar Halima Akhter; and Cowater International GAC ProNurse Project team leader Dr Selina Amin. Other speakers were Bangladesh Nurses Association president Dr Md Shariful Islam; Sajida Foundation nursing lead Kalpana Roy; Sajida Foundation head of operations Dr AKM Nazmul Islam; Generic Health Care managing director and CEO Dr Faisal Rahman; and Update Dental College and Hospital dental surgeon Dr Najiur Rahman.
Additional video messages were contributed by IUBAT College of Nursing assistant professor Priyanka Das Sharmi, student Eric Shawon Kormoker, and international student Deki Wangmo. The keynote speaker, Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council deputy registrar Nilufer Yesmin, also shared a video message.
The presidential address was then delivered by IUBAT controller of examinations Brigadier General Dr Md Zahid Hossain (retd).
Finally, the event concluded with a vote of thanks from IUBAT College of Nursing associate professor and coordinator Shuvashish Das Bala.
More than 300 participants—including students, faculty, healthcare professionals, and distinguished guests—gathered for the International Nurses Day observance.
