ICT Minister stresses transparency, accountability in sector
Fakir Mahbub Anam, the newly appointed Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, and Science and Technology, made the remarks at a reception hosted by the ICT Division at its meeting room in Agargaon, Dhaka, today.
In his speech, the Minister emphasised the need to ensure transparency and accountability in the ICT sector. He said officials' professionalism and sincerity are essential to implementing government policies.
Anam said ICT is a promising sector and that the government's priority is to expand ICT services to every upazila and make technology facilities more accessible to the public. Urging officials to act responsibly from their respective positions, he said, "Let us work together."
The Minister also said the new government wants to earn public trust through performance. Referring to the Prime Minister's emphasis on delivery, he said people's expectations can be met only through visible progress and effective initiatives.
Seeking cooperation from officials, he said his main goal is to move the ICT sector forward in a transparent and dynamic environment, guided by a new vision and policy framework.
Sheesh Haider Chowdhury, Secretary of the ICT Division, welcomed the Minister and said the division is working as the centre of the country's digital transformation. He said it is implementing projects to formulate ICT laws and policies, establish data centres and hi-tech parks, provide more than 450 digital services, support start-ups and innovation, strengthen cyber security, and develop skilled manpower. He also pledged to work together to implement government policies by ensuring transparency and accountability under the Minister's guidance.
Senior officials of the ICT Division, heads of various departments and organisations, and officials and employees attended the event.
