Global leaders, youth join INO 2025 to promote nutrition for all
The 8th edition of the International Nutrition Olympiad (INO) 2025 was organised by the BIID Foundation, bringing together national and international leaders, policymakers, development partners, researchers and youth champions to promote healthy and sustainable food systems.
Launched in 2017, the International Nutrition Olympiad serves as a global platform for adolescents and youth to exchange knowledge, showcase innovation and advocate for nutrition-focused solutions aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other national and global agendas. The latest edition was organised with support from GAIN, SUN Youth Network and HarvestPlus Solutions.
Delivering the keynote presentation, Tahmeed Ahmed, Executive Director of icddr,b, spoke on "Key challenges and solutions to ensure access, availability and affordability of nutritious food." He emphasised the need for food system reforms, equitable access to nutritious diets, climate-resilient agriculture and evidence-based policy actions to address all forms of malnutrition.
The day-long event concluded with a shared commitment to collaborative action aimed at strengthening nutrition-sensitive local food systems and advancing policy advocacy. Experts discussed a draft Nutrition Charter, reinforcing multi-stakeholder commitments to ensuring nutrition for all.
INO 2025 also recognised youth leaders and teachers across several categories for their contributions to nutrition advocacy. Nutrition clubs from different institutions showcased their initiatives and community-level activities during the event.
Commenting on the programme, Shahid Uddin Akbar, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of BIID Foundation and INO, said Dr Tahmeed Ahmed's keynote provided a strong scientific and policy foundation for youth-led nutrition advocacy and food system transformation in Bangladesh and globally.
Other distinguished guests included Nazma Shaheen, Professor at the Institute of Nutrition and Food Science, University of Dhaka; Zainul Abedin, President of BSAFE Foundation; Halida Hanum, Honorary Professor at Bangladesh University of Health Sciences; and Rudaba Khondker, Country Director of GAIN Bangladesh, along with representatives from various organisations.
