Emirates expands inclusive travel support for autistic passengers
Emirates has conducted over 40 global 'Travel Rehearsals' for children and young adults with autism in the past year, supporting more than 250 families and reinforcing its commitment to inclusive air travel.
According to a press release, the initiative forms part of the airline's broader efforts to ensure air travel is inclusive and accessible for all passengers.
Since April 2025, sessions have taken place in major cities including Dubai, London, Paris, Sydney, Toronto, Delhi and Barcelona.
The rehearsals enable participants to experience the full airport journey in a calm, structured environment prior to actual travel. Emirates stated the initiative is designed to reduce anxiety and build confidence among autistic passengers and their families.
Over 35,000 Emirates employees have received specialist training to assist autistic passengers. The airline also collaborates with airport authorities, security agencies and autism support organisations to ensure the sessions' safety and effectiveness.
Emirates noted that air travel can be overwhelming for autistic passengers due to sensory triggers such as crowds, noise and unfamiliar procedures. Research indicates that 78% of families with autistic members hesitate to travel for these reasons.
During the rehearsals, participants practise each stage of the journey—check-in, baggage drop, immigration and security screening. They receive mock boarding passes, interact with staff, and explore terminal facilities including shops and dining areas.
In select locations, participants also board real aircraft to enhance the realism of the experience.
Emirates stated that the initiative is empowering families to travel with greater confidence by making the airport experience more predictable and accessible.
