EDOTCO and TSS partner to boost telecom sustainability
EDOTCO Bangladesh, the country's leading integrated telecommunications infrastructure services provider, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Telephone Shilpa Sangstha Limited (TSSL), a state-owned enterprise under the Posts and Telecommunications Division, to advance local technical capability and promote sustainability in Bangladesh's telecom sector.
Under the partnership, the two organisations will jointly establish a Battery Repair and Refurbishment Centre at TSS's facilities to extend the lifespan of lithium-ion batteries, reduce e-waste, and develop domestic expertise in power management systems. The initiative aligns with Bangladesh's ambition for technological self-reliance and environmentally responsible digital infrastructure.
The MoU was signed at the Department of Posts and Telecommunications in Dhaka by Sunil Issac, Country Managing Director of EDOTCO Bangladesh, and Dr Manwar Hossein Malla, Managing Director of TSS. The signing was witnessed by Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, Posts and Telecommunications Division; Abdun Naser Khan, Secretary of the Department of Posts and Telecommunications; and senior officials from both organisations.
As part of the collaboration, EDOTCO Bangladesh will provide technical expertise, diagnostic frameworks, and specialised training to strengthen TSS's operational capacity. TSS will supply facilities, utilities, and personnel to ensure efficient production, quality control, and overall operational excellence.
Speaking as chief guest, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, stated that the MoU marks a major step towards strengthening the country's telecom infrastructure. He noted that the centre will improve network reliability, reduce import dependency, and support the development of skilled personnel. He added that the initiative could eventually pave the way for local battery cell manufacturing, saving foreign currency and opening new opportunities for technological innovation.
Chairing the ceremony, Secretary of the Posts and Telecommunications Division, Abdun Naser Khan, stated that the partnership reflects the government's commitment to modernising the telecom support ecosystem. Combining TSS's industrial capacity with EDOTCO's global expertise, he said, will create a mutually beneficial collaboration that supports not only telecom but also other technology-driven industries.
Sunil Issac, Country Managing Director of EDOTCO Bangladesh, stated: 'Sustainability, innovation, and local capacity development are essential to a resilient telecom ecosystem. By empowering local talent and extending the lifespan of telecom assets, we are setting a new benchmark for responsible infrastructure.'
Dr Manwar Hossein Malla, Managing Director of TSS, stated: 'This MoU marks a significant step towards local value creation. Integrating TSS's manufacturing strength with EDOTCO's technical excellence will help expand domestic production, strengthen technical expertise, and foster a greener, more self-reliant telecom industry.'
Building on a successful feasibility phase, the partnership is expected to expand into battery assembly, smart poles, and IoT solutions, further supporting Bangladesh's digital transformation.
