DoE marks World Ozone Day with call for sustainable cooling
The Department of Environment (DoE) marked World Ozone Day 2026 with a discussion in Dhaka on sustainable cooling and collective action to protect the ozone layer.
The meeting took place at the department's auditorium on Thursday (17 September). A press release said it brought together representatives from government and non-government organisations, professional bodies, and private industrial enterprises.
DoE Director General Dr Md Lutfar Rahman attended as chief guest, while Additional Director General Muhammad Solaiman Haider chaired the meeting. Deputy Director Md Mohiuddin Manik presented the keynote paper.

Participants shared views and recommendations on effective measures to protect the ozone layer during an open discussion.
According to the release, this year's theme, set by the United Nations Environment Programme, is "Global action for a cooler planet – Celebrating 10 years of sustainable cooling".
The theme recognises progress in sustainable cooling over the past decade while calling for faster action to build a cooler, safer and more sustainable future through coordinated global efforts.
World Ozone Day commemorates the signing of the Montreal Protocol in Montreal, Canada, on 16 September 1987. The day has been observed globally since 1995 to raise awareness of ozone layer protection.
