EBL, RHD introduce digital toll payments at 14 bridges
Eastern Bank PLC (EBL) and the Roads and Highways Department (RHD) partnered to introduce digital toll payment facilities at 14 RHD-operated bridges.
M Khorshed Anowar, Deputy Managing Director and Head of Retail and SME Banking of Eastern Bank, and Syed Moinul Hasan, Chief Engineer of the Roads and Highways Department, signed a memorandum of understanding at the RHD headquarters in Dhaka, according to a press release.
Under the partnership, EBL has installed merchant point-of-sale terminals at the bridges, allowing commuters to pay tolls using debit and credit cards.

The initiative also enables radio-frequency identification-based electronic toll collection through the EBL Skybanking app for contactless payments.
Customers using electronic toll collection lanes or paying by card through the app will receive a 10% discount from RHD.
The initiative is expected to reduce transaction times at toll plazas, ease traffic congestion and minimise difficulties with cash handling and change.
The partnership will also facilitate Bangla QR payment facilities at RHD-operated toll plazas, supporting the government's efforts to develop a secure and efficient digital payment ecosystem.
Ahsan Ullah Chowdhury, Head of Digital Financial Services, and Faisal M Fathe-Ul-Islam, Head of Digital Payments at Eastern Bank; Md Moniruzzaman, Additional Chief Engineer; and Md Ahsan Habib, Senior System Analyst at RHD, attended the signing ceremony.
