East West University celebrates first research day

East West University (EWU) arranged its 1st Research Day 2025 to Foster Innovation and Collaboration in research.

The full-day event was held at the EWU campus, Aftabnagar, Dhaka, on 24 May 2025. The event has been organised to highlight the crucial role of research in national development and fostering academic-industry collaboration. The inaugural session of the event was attended by Professor Dr. Shams Rahman, Vice Chancellor, EWU, who delivered the welcome speech and set the tone for the day's discussions. Mr. Shelley A. Mubdi, Member, Board of Trustees, EWU, graced the event as Chief Guest. The session was chaired by Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson, Board of Trustees and Founder Vice Chancellor, East West University.

The core of the program featured two insightful panel discussions. The first, "Importance of Research in Transforming Bangladesh into an Innovative Nation," explored how robust research endeavours can propel Bangladesh towards a more innovative future. The second discussion, "Importance of Academia-Industry Collaborative Research: Opportunities and Challenges," delved into the potential and hurdles of fostering strong partnerships between academic institutions and industrial sectors. Renowned researchers like Professor Haseena Khan, Professor Dr. Rashidul Haque, Dr. A.K.M. Masud, and key persons from the industry arena like Humaira Azam, Firoze Mohammad, and Shihab Ahmad participated in these discussions.

An awards ceremony was held at the Manzur Elahi Auditorium of EWU. During the ceremony, 72 researchers were recognised and received a crest and a certificate. Dr  Mozammel Huq Azad Khan, a professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at EWU, was awarded the "Lifetime Achievement" award for his significant research contributions. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Professor Dr. M. Ashik Mosaddik, the university's Pro-Vice-Chancellor.
