Digital toll payment via bKash introduced on Jatrabari–Gulistan flyover

To ease traffic congestion and long queues at toll plazas, bKash has introduced an RFID-based toll payment system on the Jatrabari–Gulistan flyover in Dhaka. The new service allows vehicles to pass through without stopping, saving time and reducing congestion.
With the system, an RFID sticker affixed to a vehicle's windshield is scanned automatically at toll points, and the toll is deducted directly from a bKash or bank account. Experts note that while manual toll collection can handle 300–400 vehicles an hour, automated systems can process up to four times more.
Md Naif Uddin Khan, head of operation at Orion Infrastructure Ltd, said:
"RFID use is cutting down queues and increasing speed. Toll payments from a bKash or bank account are benefiting users and making our toll management easier."
Commuters have welcomed the system. Drivers say the service feels like a "VIP system" as it eliminates the hassle of carrying cash or finding small change. Motorcyclists can also use a dedicated QR sticker for fast scanning and payments.
Registration can be completed at booths along the flyover or through the bKash app by selecting the 'Jatrabari–Gulistan Flyover' option under the 'Toll' icon. After registration, users collect their RFID sticker from the nearest booth and can purchase trips directly through the app.
bKash said the initiative is transforming daily commuting by cutting waiting times, ensuring smooth passage and promoting cashless transactions across the city.
