CRIM and CRILIC projects under LGED earn GCF’s appreciation

From 7 to 10 July 2025, the Green Climate Fund (GCF) conducted an evaluation mission of two climate resilience initiatives in Bangladesh: the Climate Information and Early Warning System (CIEWS) under the Climate Resilient Infrastructure Mainstreaming (CRIM) Project, and the Climate Resilient Local Infrastructure Centre (CRILIC).
Both are being implemented by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED).The evaluation mission was led by GCF Principal Evaluation Officer Mr. Eiko Wad, accompanied by Senior Evaluator and Consultant Dr. Vicenta Sayel Cortes Bareuta. During the visit, the team reviewed progress, assessed outcomes, and engaged with stakeholders involved in both projects.
On 7 July, a detailed presentation was delivered by CRIM and CRILIC Project Director Md. Abdul Khaleque, outlining the achievements to date and future work plans. Also in attendance were the LGED Additional Chief Engineer and the CRILIC Director, Md. Anwar Hossain, GCF Evaluation Team Member, Hafizur Rahman, project engineers, consultants, and Md. Kabir Hossain, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Economic Relations Division (ERD).
The evaluation team expressed satisfaction with the overall progress of implementation and commended the projects for aligning with climate resilience goals.
On 9 July, the delegation visited project sites in Satkhira, including discussions with officials from Satkhira Municipality and inspections of ongoing infrastructure work. The team also visited the Bakra Cyclone Shelter in Assasuni Upazila, a key installation under the CIEWS component, which the GCF supports. Interaction with residents and project beneficiaries reaffirmed the strategic relevance of site selection and the local impact of the initiative.
The mission concluded with a reaffirmation of the GCF's commitment to supporting Bangladesh's efforts in developing climate-resilient infrastructure. The field visit underscored the importance of ongoing collaboration among local authorities, communities, and international partners in strengthening climate adaptation at the grassroots level.
