Community Bank, Amra Nari hold cancer awareness seminar in Dhaka
Marking World Cancer Day on 4 February, Community Bank Bangladesh PLC organised a cancer and health awareness seminar in collaboration with Amra Nari. The seminar was held on Tuesday, 17 February 2026, at the bank's head office, with participation from female officials from the head office and branches in Dhaka.
The session featured medical experts Dr Md Khademul Bashar, assistant professor at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Mohakhali, Dhaka, and Dr Bushra Noor Al Chowdhury, assistant professor in the Department of Surgery at the National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital (NICRH), Dhaka.
In his remarks, Khademul Bashar said, "Cancer is no longer merely a medical issue; it is a significant public health challenge. Early detection, regular health check-ups and a healthy lifestyle can play a vital role in prevention. With timely and appropriate treatment, many cases of cancer can be cured."
Bushra Noor said, "Timely identification of blood disorders and cancer-related complications can save lives. No symptom should be ignored. Necessary diagnostic tests and consultation with specialists are crucial. Awareness and regular screening remain our strongest defence."
Representing Community Bank were Hasi Rani Bepari, executive vice president (EVP) and head of CRM, and H M Mehedi Hasan, senior assistant vice president (SAVP) and manager (learning and development) at the Community Bank Training Academy.
Speaking at the event, M M Zahidur Rahman Biplob, founder of Amra Nari, said the organisation is a non-political, non-profit social platform working on women's empowerment, social welfare and humanitarian development. He said the seminar was part of its ongoing efforts to promote health awareness and build a compassionate and informed society.
The seminar highlighted the importance of early detection and prevention of cancer, modern treatment options, timely diagnosis and lifestyle-related risk factors. The organisers said they would continue such awareness programmes in the future.
