Chattogram mayor urges revival of city’s entrepreneurial spirit
Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain has said that although Chattogram is often referred to as the country's commercial hub, it has yet to achieve the level of development it deserves.
"Chattogram is known as a commercial hub, but it has not truly developed as one. To transform the city into a real business centre, its entrepreneurial spirit must be revived—especially through the participation of women entrepreneurs," he said.
The mayor made the remarks while inaugurating the three-day Wedding and Lifestyle Expo 2025 at the Radisson Blu Bay View Chattogram's Mejban Hall on Thursday evening.
He added that he makes a point of attending events organised by the city's business community to express his support. "Whenever the city's businesspeople organise a fair or event, I make an effort to be present to assure them that I stand beside them," he said.
The inauguration ceremony was presided over by event organiser Manzuma Murshed and attended by Sayed Selim, President of Panchlaish Housing Society, and Mezbah Uddin, representative of BYD Bangladesh.
Organised by M&M Business Communication, the expo will run daily from 11am to 11pm, showcasing a wide range of wedding and lifestyle products—including fashion, jewellery, décor, beauty, and luxury items.
Monno is the Gold Partner, BYD the Silver Partner, with The Business Standard serving as Media Partner and Intelza Studio as Strategic Partner.
Event organiser Manzuma Murshed said the exhibition aims to connect premium brands with consumers in a festive environment ahead of the winter wedding season. The opening day drew strong crowds, particularly among young couples and families preparing for upcoming weddings.
