Coast Guard seizes Tk26 lakh worth of smuggled goods in Chattogram
The Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized smuggled goods worth around Tk26 lakh and arrested six suspected smugglers in a special operation conducted near Patenga Sea Beach in Chattogram early Friday (7 November 2025).
Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq, media officer of the Coast Guard, confirmed the information on Friday afternoon.
Acting on a tip-off, members of the Coast Guard Outpost Patenga launched the operation around 3am and intercepted a boat arriving illegally from Myanmar. During the raid, they recovered 12,500 packets of cigarettes, 45 Burmese saris, and other contraband items, along with the boat used for smuggling.
The seized goods, vessel and detainees are under process for legal action, the Coast Guard said.
Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq added that the Coast Guard will continue such drives in the future to curb smuggling and protect the country's maritime borders.
