CBC to plant 2,000 trees, restore 1.5km canal under CSR partnership
Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC (CBC) has partnered with It's Humanity Foundation (IHF) to launch an environmental sustainability initiative aimed at tree plantation and wetland restoration in Bangladesh.
As part of the initiative, 2,000 trees will be planted at designated sites in Dhaka, Gazipur, Sylhet, and Rangpur to enhance air quality, bolster climate resilience, and promote biodiversity, according to the organisations.
A separate project under the partnership will restore a 1.5km section of the Syedpur Areas Canal through desilting and ecological rehabilitation. The project is expected to benefit over 2,500 residents of Patwaripara, Niyamotpur, Bansbari, and Kundal by improving water flow, reducing waterlogging, and supporting local ecosystems, the organisations said.
The initiative also includes the installation of four tube wells to ensure access to safe drinking water for the local community.
CBC stated that the projects reflect its corporate social responsibility (CSR) commitment to environmental stewardship, community development, and climate action.
Funding for the projects was handed over to Adnan Hossain, founder and executive director of IHF, and Bashira Harun, chair of the foundation. CBC was represented by Najith Meewanage, chief executive officer, and Haily Algewatte, deputy chief executive officer, alongside senior officials from both organisations.
