Cashless ecosystem key to financial inclusion: NRBC Bank MD
A robust cashless ecosystem will be pivotal for Bangladesh's drive towards financial inclusion, transparency, good governance and expanded economic participation, said NRBC Bank Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Dr Md Touhidul Alam Khan FCMA.
He made these remarks while presenting a paper at the 12th Sustainable Development Conference 2026, held in Bangkok, Thailand, from 15 to 17 July.
Dr Khan presented a paper titled "Smart Bangladesh in Action: Strengthening Financial Inclusion through a Cashless Ecosystem" as a distinguished speaker at the three-day conference.
He underscored the need for a secure, efficient and accessible digital payment ecosystem to accelerate Bangladesh's transition to a technology-driven and inclusive economy.
He noted that reducing dependence on cash through reliable digital payment solutions is among the most practical strategies to achieve these objectives.
"In Bangladesh, the transition to digital payments goes beyond technology adoption," he said.
"It represents a fundamental transformation in financial inclusion, governance practices, transparency and broader economic participation," he added.
The conference brought together academics, professionals, policymakers and other stakeholders to discuss sustainable development, green technologies, climate change, renewable energy and public policies aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Participants from Colombia, Italy, the United Kingdom, Thailand, Russia, Taiwan, Indonesia, the United States, South Korea, Hong Kong, Fiji, Spain, Australia, India and Japan presented research and shared insights at the event.
The conference organisers also named Dr Khan as a member of its scientific committee, recognising his expertise and contributions to sustainable development discourse.
