BUET teachers condemn police action on protesting students

The Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) Teachers' Association has strongly condemned the police action on students staging peaceful demonstrations over recruitment rights and quota disparities for BSc engineering graduates.
On 27 August, police used batons, tear gas, water cannons, and sound grenades to disperse students, resulting in serious injuries. The association described these actions as unacceptable.
At an emergency general meeting on Thursday, Buet teachers expressed concern about the use of force. They called for a thorough investigation, prompt identification of those responsible, and appropriate legal action.
Teachers also urged the government to include engineering university teachers in any national committee on the issue. They called for resolving the legitimate demands of graduate engineers as soon as possible to restore a conducive academic environment.
Following the meeting, Buet teachers formed a human chain on campus to protest the incident and express solidarity with the injured students.
The association urged the government to promptly address students' demands and take decisive action against those involved in the incident, emphasising the need for a timely resolution.
