Brac University selected for prestigious Queen Elizabeth scholarship programme
BRAC University has been selected as the only host university in Bangladesh for the Queen Elizabeth Commonwealth Scholarships (QECS) for the 2026-27 award cycle.
Administered by the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), the QECS enable students from across the Commonwealth to pursue a two-year master's degree in a low- or middle-income Commonwealth country. The programme aims to nurture future leaders who can apply their knowledge to tackle global challenges and advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Applications for the 2026-27 cycle are open until 14 January 2026. The scholarship covers fully-funded tuition fees, a living allowance (stipend), return economy flights to the host country, a one-off arrival allowance and a research support grant (subject to approval).
At BRAC University, the QECS will be available in four postgraduate programmes — Master of Public Health, Master of Development Studies, Master of Education in Educational Leadership and School Improvement, and Master of Science in Biotechnology. Applicants must meet the academic and admission criteria set by BRAC University.
Commenting on the announcement, Dave Dowland, Registrar of BRAC University, said:
"Bangladesh is a country with solutions to many world issues; this is a fine opportunity for students from Commonwealth countries to build contacts here and to experience a new culture."
BRAC University joined the Association of Commonwealth Universities in 2021, becoming part of a network of more than 500 member institutions worldwide. The membership provides access to collaborative research, fellowship opportunities and institutional partnerships across the Commonwealth.
By being chosen as the sole QECS host institution from Bangladesh, BRAC University reaffirms its commitment to SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), further strengthening its role as a global hub for inclusive, high-quality higher education.
