BRAC Bank facilitates loans for grassroots borrowers
BRAC Bank and other participating banks have disbursed instant loans to marginal farmers and small traders in Sirajganj under Bangladesh Bank's refinance scheme for Tk10, Tk50 and Tk100 account holders.
BRAC Bank organised the open loan programme as the lead bank under the guidance of Bangladesh Bank's Financial Inclusion Department, according to a press release issued on 18 May 2026.
The programme was held at the Officers' Club in Sirajganj to raise awareness and bring underserved communities into the formal financial system.
Loans were publicly disbursed to marginal farmers and small entrepreneurs holding Tk10, Tk50 and Tk100 accounts under the central bank's Tk750 crore refinance scheme.
Abeda Rahim, Additional Director of the Financial Inclusion Department of Bangladesh Bank, attended the event as the chief guest.
Rokeya Sultana, Joint Director of the Financial Inclusion Department of Bangladesh Bank, and SM Alomgir Hossain, Head of Cottage, Micro and Small Business Unit-1 of BRAC Bank, were present as special guests.
Sheikh Ahona Hakim, Assistant Director of the Financial Inclusion Department at Bangladesh Bank, outlined the programme's purpose and the central bank's broader initiatives under the refinance scheme for marginalised communities.
From BRAC Bank, Proshanta Kumar Saha, Senior Manager, Regulatory Relations and Stakeholder Management, SME Banking; Fazlul Karim, Regional Head, Network Distribution, North Bengal; Sanjoy Kumar Saha, Branch Manager, Sirajganj; and other senior officials were present.
Two women entrepreneurs shared their stories of progress, describing how access to formal credit had helped change the course of their businesses.
BRAC Bank said the initiative reflects its continued commitment to empowering rural communities, enhancing financial literacy and advancing financial inclusion at the grassroots level in collaboration with Bangladesh Bank.
