BMU stresses awareness, surveys on Parkinson’s disease
Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) marked World Parkinson's Day on Saturday (11 April 2026).
The event highlighted the urgent need for public awareness and research into Parkinson's disease in Bangladesh.
To commemorate the day, BMU organised a rally from its B Block, and Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr FM Siddiqui inaugurated the event.
In his address, the vice-chancellor emphasised the importance of raising awareness, and he noted that early detection and appropriate treatment can significantly enhance patients' quality of life.
He called for comprehensive epidemiological surveys on Parkinson's disease. He said such research identifies risk factors, improves patient outcomes, and reduces public health risks.
Faculty members, physicians, and neurology residents joined the rally. Other stakeholders also participated.
Participants noted Parkinson's symptoms, including hand and leg tremors, slowed movement, muscle stiffness, and loss of balance.
