Biman earns Tk785 crore net profit in 2024–25 fiscal year
The annual general meeting (AGM) of Biman Bangladesh Airlines was held on 30 December, 2025, where the airline disclosed its income and expenditure figures for the previous fiscal year.
The meeting was chaired by Chairman of the Biman Board of Directors Sheikh Bashir Uddin and attended by board members. Representatives of shareholder ministries, including the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cabinet Division, and Ministry of Commerce, were also present.
The national flag carrier reported record revenue of Tk11,559 crore in the 2024–25 fiscal year, marking a 9.46% increase compared to the previous year. During the same period, Biman earned an operational profit of Tk1,602 crore, while its net profit stood at Tk785.21 crore, representing a 178% rise year-on-year.
With this performance, Biman has maintained profitability for the fifth consecutive year and recorded net profits in nine of the past 10 fiscal years.
In the 2024–25 fiscal year, Biman operated 21 aircraft on 30 domestic and international routes, transporting a total of 3.383 million passengers, up 1% from the previous year. The airline also carried 43,918 metric tonnes of cargo, generating Tk925 crore in revenue — a 45.21% increase year-on-year.
During the same period, Biman provided ground handling services to 31,112 flights operated by foreign airlines, serving 6,103,147 passengers.
It may be noted that Biman Bangladesh Airlines is a state-owned enterprise fully operated on its own revenue and has not received any government subsidy over the past 54 years. In January 2025, the airline recorded its highest-ever ticket sales, reflecting growing passenger confidence and market demand.
Improved baggage delivery times, enhanced in-flight services and modernisation of airport processes have contributed to higher passenger satisfaction, while the airline continues to maintain a strong safety record by adhering to international aviation standards.
Industry observers have also acknowledged Biman's recent fleet modernisation, expansion of profitable international routes, and improvements in customer service. Officials said strengthened financial discipline, efficient asset allocation and reinforced internal controls under the interim government played a significant role in achieving the record profit.
Looking ahead, Biman plans to expand routes to new destinations, accelerate digital transformation in passenger services and operations, and further strengthen its cargo business, with the goal of becoming a leading airline in South Asia while upholding national pride and ensuring passenger safety and reliability.
