BCSA highlights potato potential ahead of December festival
The Bangladesh Cold Storage Association (BCSA) organised a press briefing titled "Potato Festival 2025 – Meet the Press" at its office in Purana Paltan, Dhaka, today (29 November).
The event highlighted the diversified use of potatoes, export prospects, preservation technologies and the expansion of the country's potato-processing industry.
Representatives from the agriculture, potato production, cold-chain and food-processing sectors attended the session.
The discussion was addressed by Mostofa Azad Chowdhury Babu, president of BCSA; Eshtiaque Ahmed, senior vice president; Mohammed Younus, vice president; and Faizul Alam, managing director of Postmaster Communication. Directors, the CEO and relevant officials of BCSA were also present.
Speakers said that although Bangladesh ranks 7th globally and 3rd in Asia in potato production, the country has yet to fully harness its potential because of inadequate modern storage systems, limited processing capacity and the absence of export-friendly infrastructure.
They noted that the upcoming Potato Festival 2025, scheduled for 12–13 December at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB), will serve as a significant platform to introduce Bangladesh's potato industry to the global market. The festival will showcase modern technologies, promote investment, and create both domestic and international export opportunities.
The international exhibition will feature hundreds of local and foreign organisations involved in potato production, storage, processing, value addition, cold-chain technology, agricultural machinery, food innovation and culinary arts. B2B meetings, technical seminars and expert discussions will also be held alongside the exhibition.
Concluding the briefing, organisers expressed hope that Potato Festival 2025 will strengthen Bangladesh's foothold in the global potato market and help unlock new frontiers for the sector.
