Bangladesh observes world ozone day

Bangladesh observed World Ozone Day on 16 September to highlight its commitment to the goals of the 1987 Montreal Protocol and increase awareness on protecting the ozone layer.
The United Nations Environment Programme set this year's theme as "From science to global action." It was translated into Bangla as "Biggyansammat kormo, ozone rokkhay bormo." Following the theme, the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change, along with the Department of Environment, organised various programmes.
A discussion and prize-giving ceremony took place at 9:45 a.m., emphasizing partnerships between the government, private sector, and youth to advance ozone protection measures. The event brought together participants from various sectors and honored children who had contributed through art.
The adviser distributed prizes to the winners of the children's art competition and called on citizens to actively protect the environment.
The ministry and department also organized a rally and procession at 8:00 a.m., led by the Director General. The procession gathered about 600 participants to visibly demonstrate support for the cause along a key city route.
To engage youth, the Department of Environment hosted a children's art competition and media campaigns, aiming to raise lasting awareness among the younger generation.
