Bangladesh, Egypt discuss trade, energy cooperation
Bangladesh and Egypt have agreed to strengthen cooperation and investment, with a particular focus on the energy sector during the ongoing global energy crisis.
The commitment emerged during a meeting between Egyptian Ambassador Omar Mohie Eldin Ahmed Fahmy and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday (4 May).
Discussions centred on expanding cooperation in infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, jute, manpower, and energy.
The state minister emphasised the importance of deepening collaboration in culture and education.
Both sides reaffirmed the longstanding friendship and expanding bilateral ties between Bangladesh and Egypt.
Shama Obaed expressed appreciation for Egypt's support in hosting a significant number of Bangladeshi students and professionals.
She particularly thanked Egypt for its recent decision to double the number of fully funded scholarships for Bangladeshi students from 12 to 24.
The ambassador reiterated Egypt's commitment to advancing cooperation across all sectors, including the recruitment of skilled and semi-skilled manpower, and collaboration in energy, agriculture, and culture.
He assured the state minister of Egypt's continued support for Bangladesh's development priorities.
Shama Obaed highlighted the need to enhance people-to-people contacts, including cultural and sports exchanges.
She also called for a mutual visa waiver agreement, regular bilateral engagements, and high-level visits to further deepen the partnership.
The ambassador reaffirmed Egypt's continued support for Bangladesh and expressed a strong commitment to further strengthening the brotherly relations between the two nations.
