Bangladesh condemns Israeli aggression, calls for accountability at OIC
Md Touhid Hossain, Foreign Affairs Adviser to the Government of Bangladesh, has strongly condemned Israel's unlawful military attack on Iran, calling it a blatant act of aggression that violates international law and threatens regional and global peace.
Speaking at the 51st session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) in Istanbul, the adviser urged the international community to hold Israel accountable and called for an immediate end to such provocations.
"This is a grave violation of the UN Charter and Iran's sovereignty. Such reckless actions threaten to destabilise the region and undermine global peace," said Touhid.
He also drew attention to Israel's continued onslaught in Gaza, now ongoing for over 600 days, describing it as genocidal and a systematic breach of international human rights and humanitarian law.
"Bangladesh calls for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza and reiterates its support for a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of an independent Palestine," he added.
Touhid called on OIC member states to pursue justice through the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the International Criminal Court (ICC), emphasising the need for strategic, united action.
On the Rohingya crisis, he warned of its potential to become a security threat, calling for urgent steps to ensure safe, voluntary, and dignified repatriation to Myanmar's Rakhine State. He invited OIC members to join the High-Level Conference on Rohingya Muslims at the UN Headquarters on 30 September 2025.
The adviser also urged stronger OIC involvement in mediation and humanitarian action across Yemen, Sudan, Libya, and Syria and welcomed the UN's recognition of 15 March as International Day to Combat Islamophobia.
Touhid proposed an OIC Climate Resilience Initiative, a cooperation framework for contract farming, and an OIC Innovation Network to mobilise youth and researchers. He also highlighted Bangladesh's signing of key OIC conventions and the establishment of its permanent mission to the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Referring to Bangladesh's ongoing political transition under the interim government led by Nobel Peace Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus, he called for solidarity from OIC member states in ensuring a peaceful, people-oriented future.
