Bangladesh and Russia agree to deepen quality control cooperation

Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Russia's Federal Agency on Technical Regulating and Metrology (GOST R) to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the development of national standards and quality control mechanisms.
The MoU was signed on Monday at the BSTI headquarters in Tejgaon, Dhaka. S. M. Ferdous Alam, Director General (Grade-1) of BSTI, signed the agreement on behalf of Bangladesh, while Anton Shalaev, Chief Executive of GOST R, signed on behalf of the Russian side.
The signing ceremony was presided over by the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Industries, Maksura Noor, NDC. Minister-Counsellor of the Russian Embassy in Dhaka, Ekaterina Semenova, also attended the event, alongside Md. Mosharraf Hossain, Director General of the Eastern Europe and CIS Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Md. Hafizur Rahman, Administrator of FBCCI, and senior officials from the Ministry of Industries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Russian Embassy and the BSTI.
Officials said the agreement opens up new avenues for technical collaboration in standardisation, conformity assessment, metrology and related fields. It is expected to facilitate mutual exchange of expertise and information, as well as support trade between the two countries through harmonisation of standards.
The MoU marks a step forward in BSTI's efforts to align with global best practices and expand international partnerships in regulatory cooperation.
