Bangladesh, AirAsia explore deeper aviation cooperation
Bangladesh and AirAsia have explored opportunities to strengthen aviation cooperation through knowledge sharing and technology transfer, focusing on low-cost carrier operations, airport efficiency, digitalisation and aircraft maintenance.
The discussions took place during a recent visit by a high-level Bangladeshi delegation, led by State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat, to RedQ, AirAsia Group's headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The delegation included the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority Executive Chairman, Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, and the Bangladesh High Commissioner to Malaysia, Manjurul Karim Khan Chowdhury.
AirAsia Group Chief Executive Officer Bo Lingam welcomed the delegation and led discussions on the group's business and operating model, operational practices and potential areas of broader aviation cooperation.
"We are honoured to welcome the delegation from Bangladesh to AirAsia and share our experiences across the aviation value chain. We hope the exchange provides useful insights into our operations and creates opportunities for continued knowledge sharing and technology transfer between our two markets," Lingam said.
During an executive briefing, officials from AirAsia and Capital A shared insights into the low-cost carrier model. They discussed the importance of creating an enabling policy and operational environment for its sustainable growth.
The discussions covered network and fleet strategies, airport efficiency, faster aircraft turnaround, and measures to reduce operating costs, making air travel more affordable and accessible.
The delegation also toured Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2 with Ground Team Red. They observed automated and self-service passenger processing, digital baggage systems and other technologies designed to improve passenger flow, aircraft utilisation and operational efficiency.
The programme included a visit to Asia Digital Engineering's 14-line maintenance, repair and overhaul facility. The delegation received insights into modern aircraft maintenance and the role of engineering and technology in improving fleet reliability and performance.
The visit concluded with a dinner hosted by Capital A Chief Executive Officer Tony Fernandes in honour of Millat and Ashik. They exchanged views on aviation cooperation, tourism, and investment, and explored opportunities to support the development of the aviation sectors in Bangladesh and Malaysia.
The visit reflected both sides' interest in advancing knowledge exchange, technology transfer, and mutually beneficial aviation cooperation.
