Alliance Française de Dhaka to host Francophonie Festival 2026
Alliance Française de Dhaka will celebrate the French language and the diversity of Francophone cultures with the Francophonie Festival 2026, featuring talks, competitions, a concert, film screenings, an exhibition, and theatre.
Observed worldwide each year, the Francophonie Festival promotes the use of the French language and highlights the cultural and linguistic diversity shared by Francophone communities. The festival reflects the values of solidarity, dialogue, and cultural exchange upheld by the International Organisation of La Francophonie.
The festival will open on 6 March 2026 at Alliance Française de Dhaka with the following activities:
- Campus France Bangladesh session (10:30am, Auditorium Nouvelle Vague) – An information session for students interested in higher education opportunities in France
- Francophonie quiz competition (11am and 3:30pm, classroom) – Organised for students of Alliance Française de Dhaka.
- Pétanque tournament (3pm, courtyard) – Open to all.
- Francophonie concert (4:30pm, Café La Véranda) – Featuring Mizanuddin Khan, Rahin Haider, and guest artists.
From 6 to 9 March, visitors can also explore the Francophonie Community Exhibition of Handwritten Poetry, opening at 11am on 6 March at Galerie Zoom.
On 7 March 2026, the festival will host a Francophonie film show at Auditorium Nouvelle Vague, featuring: "La vérité (For Real)" (2024) by Malou Lévêque (2:30pm), "Bonarrien (No Good)" (2023) by Adiel Goliot (3pm), and "In the fil (An Ordinary Case)" (2024) by Daniel Auteuil (3:30pm).
Later the same evening, audiences will be able to watch a theatrical performance of Jean Cocteau's monodrama "The Human Voice" at 7pm at La Galerie.
The festival will conclude on 9 March 2026 with a film show featuring Kosovo and Switzerland, including screenings of "Le Procès du chien (Dog on Trial)" at 2pm and "Destination francophonie: Destination Kosovo" (2025) by Ivan Kabacoff and TV5Monde at 4pm.
This year, Alliance Française de Dhaka is celebrating Francophonie with the High Commission of Canada and the Embassies of France, Switzerland, and Kosovo.
