Agri, tech, RMG sectors and expats key contributors to revenue earnings: Palak

At present, the main economic driving forces of Bangladesh are the country's agriculture, technology, and ready-made garment sectors and the expatriates in different countries, State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information and Communication Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak has said.
"Most of the income or revenue of the economic activities of Bangladesh is being earned from the four sources," he said while virtually inaugurating Agriculture Technology Fair 2024 organised at Singra upazila of Natore on Wednesday (6 March).
The state minister, as chief guest, also inaugurated a newly-constructed agricultural machinery and equipment storage in the upazila.
"Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman wanted to make Bangladesh a 'Golden Bangla' through agricultural revolution on the basis of cooperatives. The movement for the incomplete economic liberation of the 'Golden Bangla' has become successful under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, daughter of Bangabandhu," he said.
Palak further said due to the expansion of education and the impact of technology, around 16 lakh agricultural labourers are currently decreasing every year, resulting in a huge gap for labourers, which cannot be met without the use of modern agricultural technology.
He said approval has already been given for initiating a project to establish a fisheries and livestock research centre and agricultural training institute at Singra. Once established, the institute will increase agricultural and fishery production and enrich the crop and fishery resources in the upazila.
On the occasion, combine harvester machines gifted by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina were distributed among the farmers of Singra upazila. In addition, the upazila animal resources officer, on behalf of the state minister, distributed 4,000 chickens and mango trees among 200 families.
Singra upazila nirbahi officer, upazila vice chairman, agricultural officer, fishery officer and local Awami League leaders and farmers were present on the occasion.
