More than 3,275,627 TEUs of containers were handled in Chattogram port

All the past records of container handling at Chattogram port, the country's main sea port, were broken this year.

From 1 January to 31 December 2024, the port handled 3,275,627 TEUs of containers and 123,986,014 tonnes of cargo.

The container handling has increased by 7.42% compared to 2023, and cargo increased by 3.11%, Chittagong Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral SM Moniruzzaman said during a briefing today (1 January).

He said, the average waiting period for ships has come down to one day. However, the number of ships handled in 2024 was 3,867 which is 236 less compared to 2023 when 4,103 ships were handled.

The port chairman said according to the calendar year 2024, the revenue income was Tk5,055 crore 99 lakh, which is 21.39% more than last year (revenue of Tk4,165 crore 18 lakh) and the revenue surplus was Tk2,948 crore 97 lakh in the year 2024, which is 37.6% higher than last year when it was Tk2,143 crore 1 lakh.

Also, in the calendar year 2024, the revenue expenditure was Tk2,107 crore 2 lakh which is 4.2% less than last year (revenue expenditure is Tk2,022 crore 8 lakh).
