BNP slams national budget on nominal allocation for the poor
“The total allocation for the poor in the new budget will not even stand at Tk200 per capita for 5 crore people,” said BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury
The BNP has criticized the proposed 2021-22 fiscal year budget for its nominal allocation for the poor.
"The government has made most of the allocations for mega projects, leaving a nominal allotment for the poor," said BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, in expressing his immediate reaction.
Arguing in favour of his view, the BNP leader said more than 5 crore people are now living below the poverty line, of which around 2.5 crore have recently been added to the group.

"The total allocation for the poor in the new budget will not even stand at Tk200 per capita for 5 crore people," he alleged.
The BNP leader also talked of the alleged irregularities and corruption involved in the mega projects, saying, "We all know what happens in the mega projects." He cited the reported corruption at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Project as an example.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal placed the 2021-22 budget proposal before the national parliament on Thursday.
