Bangladesh Bank issues clarification regarding dress code advisory
In a clarification from the spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan, he stated that the advisory was aimed at fostering stronger mutual understanding and inclusivity among its diverse workforce.
The Bangladesh Bank has issued a directive providing advice on office attire. However, since then, the central bank has been subjected to considerable backlash regarding the decision.
In a clarification from the spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan, he stated that the advisory was aimed at fostering stronger mutual understanding and inclusivity among its diverse workforce.
"The initiative comes as various types of attire differences observed among male and female colleagues across different age groups and seeks to address any resulting perceptions of mental disparity," he said.
Arif also said, "The directive emphasises that the differences in clothing styles — both among men and among women — can sometimes create barriers to workplace bonding."
"To mitigate this, the advisory directive encourages modest and appropriate dress, while discouraging overly ornate or extravagant clothing in the office setting," he added.
The spokesperson noted that importantly, the directive clarifies that it does not impose any restrictions or directives regarding the wearing of burqas or hijabs by female staff members. "Rather, it acknowledges and validates the choice to wear such attire, reinforcing the principle of personal freedom and religious expression."
"This is an advisory directive," the spokesperson stated. "We believe this will not infringe on anyone's right to choose their attire."
