Biman flight from Rome to Dhaka grounded over wing flap fault
Biman sources said the fault was detected after all preparations for takeoff had been completed

A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Rome to Dhaka was cancelled last night (10 August) after a fault in the wing flap was detected moments before takeoff, leaving 262 passengers stranded.
Biman flight BG356, operated by a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, was scheduled to depart Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport in Rome at 7:20pm local time (11:20pm Bangladesh time). The aircraft currently remains grounded at the airport.
According to the airline's engineering department, the wing flap malfunction was discovered during final checks after passengers had boarded.
As the issue could not be fixed immediately, the flight was cancelled and the passengers were taken to a hotel.
ABM Rowshan Kabir, General Manager of Biman's Public Relations Department, said, "The flight was cancelled due to a mechanical fault and the passengers have been accommodated in a hotel."
He added that the required spare parts to repair the wing flap are being sent from London and are expected to arrive in Rome this evening (11 August), Bangladesh time.
Once repaired, the passengers will be flown to Dhaka on the same aircraft, with no alternative flight planned in the meantime.
Biman sources said the fault was detected after all preparations for takeoff had been completed.
The crew informed the 262 passengers on board just before the scheduled departure that the flight could not operate due to the problem.
After nearly three hours of uncertainty, hotel arrangements were made for all passengers and crew.
