Potatoes will be exported through contract farming: BPEA

Bangladesh Potato Exporters Association (BPEA) has urged that the export of potatoes through contract farming.

BPEA in collaboration with Agro Products Business Promotion Council (APBPC) said this in a workshop this morning.

President of BPEA Dr Shaikh Abdul Quader, Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) Chairman, Md Sayedul Islam and Secretary-General Zakir Hossain were present in the workshop.

"The production of quality potatoes will be ensured through coordination between the exporters and the farmers," said Md Sayedul Islam.

"The government agencies are working together to enhance the method of potato export," Md Sayedul Islam added.

Abdul Quader said, "Exporters want to export quality potatoes but there is a lack of knowledge about the production in the country."

Speakers  in the workshop highlighted on various steps taken by the government to create quality potatoes for the export market.

They also mentioned steps to create platforms for farmers and exporters to coordinate.
