A shipment of 60,950 tonnes of wheat from the United States has arrived at the Chattogram Port aboard the vessel MV Lowlands Patrasche.
The consignment is part of a government-to-government (G2G) purchase agreement between Bangladesh and the US under the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by the two countries.
The wheat is being imported under a G2G cash purchase contract, the Ministry of Food said in a press release today (5 December).
Bangladesh began importing wheat from the US this year under a G2G arrangement, which covers a total of 440,000 tonnes.
Under the first shipment, 56,959 tonnes arrived on 25 October, followed by 60,802 tonnes in the second shipment on 3 November, and 60,875 tonnes in the third shipment on 15 November.
The latest consignment marks the fourth shipment, bringing the total wheat received so far to 239,586 tonnes.
Quality inspection of wheat samples from the newly arrived vessel has already begun. Upon completion of the testing process, necessary steps will be taken to begin unloading the wheat, the release added.
