505 receive CA certificates at ICAB Convocation

A total of 505 newly qualified chartered accountants received CA certificates at the 21st Convocation of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB), held on Friday (9 December) at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka.

In the glittering ceremony, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi handed over the certificates to the qualified chartered accountant.

Dr Shamsul Alam, minister of State for Planning, was also present as a special guest and handed over the certificates.

Professor Dr Md Sadequl Arefin, vice-chancellor of University of Barishal, spoke on the occasion as the convocation speaker.

ICAB President Md Shahadat Hossain FCA delivered the welcome address, while former president and council member Md Humayun Kabir FCA gave the speech on the conferment of CA certificate.

The closing remarks were delivered by ICAB Vice President NKA Mobin FCA.

Dignitaries from the government offices, ICAB Council members, and former presidents were present in the occasion.

Tipu Munshi said, Bangladesh requires at least 12 thousand CAs to bring good governance in trade, commerce, and industry, whereas the country has only 2 thousand CAs.

ICAB is working relentlessly to attract quality students to pursue CA education. The newly qualified members of ICAB will definitely have a significant impact on the economy, he said.

ICAB President Md Shahadat Hossain FCA said, CA will play pioneer role in the compliance of ethical standards. 

He said, CAs have a moral obligation to utilize their knowledge for the betterment of the country's financial ecosystem.

He hoped that their professionalism would ultimately provide a long-term benefit for the economy.
