At least eight people have tested positive for Covid-19 in rapid antigen tests at nine cattle markets in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) areas in the capital on Monday.

Among the Covid-19 infected people, four were sellers and rest were buyers.

The eight were detected positive after samples of 92 people were tested at the Corona Protection Centres set up by the BRAC since this morning, said BRAC Health, Nutrition and Population Programme Manager, Mirana Jaman.

Three were found Covid-19 positive in Gabtoli cattle market, two in Saidnagar cattle market in Bhatara, one in Aftabnagar cattle market, one in Moinartek cattle market in Uttarkhan, one in Turag cattle market.

For the first time, BRAC has installed nine antigen test booths in nine cattle markets in DNCC this year.

The results of antigen tests were produced in 30 minutes, said Rafikul Islam, BRAC medical technologist in Gabtoli.

Large crowd gathered at different cattle markets centering the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha where most of the cattle sellers were seen without wearing any face mask and people were avoiding health regulations including social distancing.
