The district administration of Gaibandha has locked down the entire district to stem Covid-19.

The lockdown has been put in force since 5 pm on Friday.

Confirming the news, Gaibandha Deputy Commissioner Md Abdul Matin said the coronavirus situation in district has not yet turned risky but that measures have been taken to keep the situation under control.

"Guard posts will be set up to control the movement of people coming in from various areas, to prevent the spread of the coronavirus," said Abdul Matin.

Meanwhile, Fulchhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Abu Raihan Dolon said some 95 workers who have recently returned to the district from Munshiganj and Narayanganj are under institutional quarantine and they have been provided security and food.

"It has been confirmed that at least 80 more workers are arriving from Dhaka, Munshiganj and Narayanganj. We have prepared Chandashar School as quarantine centre for them," he added.

Meanwhile, Rima Khatun, 11, child of Enamul Haque died with symptoms of coronavirus in Gobindaganj upazila of the district on Friday morning.

A special medical team of the upazila health complex has collected the samples for coronavirus test.
