Dr Rizwanul Karim, member secretary of the combined Covid-19 control room at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.

In the wake of questions about the purchase of substandard personal protective equipment (PPE) and N-95 masks, Shahidullah was taken back from CMSD to the army headquarters on May 23.

On May 30, Shahidullah wrote a letter to the public administration secretary. In the letter, he requested that the entire healthcare sector, including CMSD be made "syndicate-free."

He also provided information about a syndicate among government authorities and the suppliers – contractors – that control the CMSD's procurement process.

Brigadier General Md Shahidullah said they even influence transfers and postings in the healthcare sector.

In his letter, he also detailed a lack of coordination in the healthcare sector during the Covid-19 pandemic.
