75% Covid dedicated beds, 53% ICUs vacant at hospitals

Around 75% of coronavirus dedicated beds and 53% of ICUs are now vacant at hospitals across the country, says the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
In a press note this afternoon, the ministry said some 9,291 beds out of a total of 12,289 Covid dedicated general beds, and 586 out of 1,090 ICU beds, are now lying vacant in hospitals.
The development came as Bangladesh saw significant improvement in the Covid situation in recent days.

The second wave of coronavirus hit Bangladesh at the beginning of March. There was a crisis of Covid dedicated beds and ICUs at the hospitals over the last few weeks, due to the sudden influx of patients.
However, the scenario has changed favourably, with comparatively lower fatalities and fresh cases recorded in the last few days. On Tuesday, the country reported 61 deaths from Covid-19 and 1,914 fresh cases in a span of 24 hours till 8am.
With the latest figures, the total death count reached 11,705, while the fatality rate from the virus stood at 1.53%.
According to data released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the total case count in the country now stands at 7,65,596.
