Covid-19 cases on the rise
In the last 24 hours, till Friday 8am, 1,066 people tested positive for Covid-19 and the infection rate was 6.62%
Bangladesh has recorded 1,066 new cases of Covid-19 with a 6.62% infection rate in the last 24 hours, till Friday 8am,
Although the infection rate was below 5% for about two months, new patient detection and infection rates have been rising since last week.
According to the World Health Organization, a situation is considered under control when the infection rate is below 5% for three consecutive weeks.

On Wednesday, 1,018 people tested positive for Covid-19 and the infection rate was 5.98% of the total tests.
On Thursday, the infection rate was 5.82% with 1,051 new Covid-19 cases.
Prof Ridwanur Rahman, a medicine and infectious diseases specialist, told The Business Standard people have become reluctant in following hygiene rules since vaccinations began.
However, the reality is that there is no alternative to following health rules and getting the vaccine, he added.
"Otherwise, infections may increase further. Vaccines will provide 70% protection. Someone can be infected even after receiving the jab if he does not follow hygiene rules. Vaccinations will reduce deaths due to Covid-19," explained Ridwanur Rahman.
To win against the virus, Bangladesh has vaccinated 42,18,127 people since the mass vaccination campaign started on 7 February.
Bangladesh confirmed 13 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, said a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services on Friday.
The number of novel coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 5,55,222 and the death toll stands at 8,515.
Among the latest day's victims, 12 were men and one was a woman.
The country's maiden cases were reported on 8 March last year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
