Rehab signs agreement with 11 institutes to train construction workers

The Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (Rehab) entered into agreements with 11 training institutes, to add 10,000 skilled workers to the construction sector, on Monday.

Previously, Rehab trained 11,000 construction workers in two phases. At least 90% of those workers now have a job at home or abroad, said a press release.

Rehab is conducting the training under the Skills for Employment Investment Program (SEIP) of the Ministry of Finance.

Alamgir Shamsul Alamin (Kajol), president of Rehab, signed the agreements on behalf of his organization.

Under the agreement, the training will be provided free of cost and aims to create skilled construction workers in the housing industry. At the same time, scholarships will be given to each trainee.

The three month training will be given on: electrical installation and maintenance, plumbing, masonry, plus steel binding and fabrication.

At the end of the training, the trainees will have employment opportunities in the country and abroad. By December 2023, at least 10,000 new workers will be trained, stated the press release.

REHAB project standing committee member, Dr Engineer Masuda Siddique Rosie, director of Rehab; Engineer Md Al Amin, and Chief Co-ordinator Kazi Abul Kashem were present during the event.

The agreement was then signed by the remaining organisations' representatives, at their respective offices, because of the pandemic.
